This was the end of the world until Henry the Navigator sent explorers off 700 years ago. Very atmospheric, fabulous sea views from the perimeter cliff walk and the very special flora and fauna. There are canons on display and an old church.
The walk is flat and takes a good hour and a half at a leisurely pace. Normally is very windy, so if you have a windbreaker jacket bring it with you.
Once inside the fortress be sure to wander into the modern round concrete structure, if you stop at the blow hole you can hear the roar of the ocean.
Entry fee is 3 Euros.
